How To Win At Video Poker
If you are not quite ready to take on a real game of poker with flesh and blood players and all the noises and distractions that go along with being at a table with experienced players, then the best alternative for you is to play video poker. To learn how to win at video poker is much easier than playing with real people, and you can build up your confidence and expand your skills while you learn without losing any money.
Especially if you are a beginning poker player and you are intimidated by the skilled play of the other folks at the table, or you don't want to look like you don't know what you're doing; plus the fact that you don't have that much money to wager and the odds are pretty good that you are going to lose it all. In that case, learning how to win at video poker is what you should start out with.
Sitting across the table from someone who is staring you down while you try to figure out your next play, or watching the person next to you rake in pot after pot can be very intimidating when you are nervous or fearful, and don't forget the other players can pick up on your nervousness and take advantage of it.
When you play video poker, you can play whenever you feel like it, you don't need to join a table of other players, you can play in your underwear if you like; and if you feel like just stopping for a while, you can do that too.
And one of the best parts of playing video poker, is that you don't have to worry that you are showing your hands inadvertantly to the other players by your "tells". (These are the little body signs and language mannerisms that give your hand away to the other players by "telling" them you have a good hand or a bad one by the way you react or the expressions on your face). You don't have to tune out the noise of the crowds or be aware of the mannerisms of the other players, you can just concentrate on your hand and your game.
But, in spite of all the pros there are to playing video poker, there are still a few cons and that is that it is not all that easy to win at video poker. In order to make that more of a reality, you still need to put in some time at the regular poker tables and get used to playing regular poker and learning its ins and outs and then applying some of that knowledge to video poker.
It may not be what you want to hear, but this is the only real way that you can learn how to win at video poker. When you have gotten to the point that you can do a decent job at the regular poker tables and you are winning a goodly number of hands at video poker, then it is time to get out there and spend some time playing with the more seasoned players. That is the true way to become a fit poker player in all aspects of the game, and you will come to enjoy the fun that takes place around a poker table and finding out that a lot of the excitement of poker is not just the hands themselves, but the atmosphere and tension around the table, playing off the other players, and not just playing by yourself.
